Residents Oppose Warehouse Off Sunrise Highway In Bellport: Report
Warehouse developers would get a tax break, but opponents tell Newsday it would not bring enough jobs to make up for lost tax revenue.

BELLPORT, NY — A group of Bellport residents oppose a warehouse plan that would allow developer Ares Management Corp. a tax break from the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency, saying it could result in lost tax revenue and add to health problems in the area, Newsday reported.
As part of the $121.4 million plan, three buildings totaling about 523,100 square feet will be constructed on vacant land at the intersection of Station Road and Sunrise Highway, according to the outlet. The site would open in April 2024 and employ about 130 people with an average annual income of $37,000, Newsday reported, citing the company's IDA application.
No potential tenants have been indicated on the application, according to the outlet.

Lisa Sevimli of East Patchogue told Newsday that by applying to the IDA, Ares is "stripping money from libraries, schools, roads, our public use of space."
"The amount [of jobs] that they're bringing is not enough to pay for the taxes they won't be paying. It doesn't add up," she said.
