SJC and Briarcliffe Win On the Diamond
SJC and Briarcliffe each had important victories in their respective conferences this past weekend.

The Golden Eagles baseball team (4-0, 6-7) shutout NYU-Poly, 27-0, during their second of two wins against NYU-Polytechnic (0-3, 0-9) in a doubleheader Saturday. This was after already defeating the team 24-6 in the first game. The games were the first Skyline Conference games of the season.
Freshman Mike Napoli recorded the shutout for the Golden Eagles, pitching seven innings of one-hit ball, while sophomore outfielders Brian Hannigan and Kenny Williams led the offensive charge, each knocking in five runs.
The Golden Eagles (4-0, 6-7) defeated NYU-Poly (0-3, 0-9) in the first game, 24-6.

Williams and Hannigan also had impressive games during the 24-6 victory, as the duo combined for seven RBI, giving them a combined 17 for the series.
The Golden Eagles kept their impressive start to their Skyline matchups strong the following day, when they swept Maritime in a doubleheader as well, defeating them, 13-4 and 7-2.

With those four conference victories, the Golden Eagles now sit in first place in the Skyline standings.
Softball team has rough time in South Carolina
SJC’s women’s softball team left their trip to Myrtle Beach with a 1-5 record.
After a strong opening game for the Golden Eagles where they defeated Gordon, 8-1, the team’s luck took a turn for the rest of the trip.
Gordon rebounded from the loss, defeating SJC in the second game of the doubleheader, 14-11.
SJC then lost its next four contests: 10-1 and 9-1 to Gettysburg and 4-0 and 2-1 to Cardinal Stritch.
The women will open up their Skyline schedule against NYU-Poly on Saturday at noon.
Briarcliffe makes easy work of NHTI
The Seahawks enjoyed three victories over their USCAA rival NHTI this past weekend.
Saturday, the Seahawks won 23-2 with the crafty pitching of Rick Doht, who went five innings, fanning eight NHTI batters.
Sam Braverman and Anthony Mele each went 2-for-3, driving in a combined seven runs for the Seahawks.
A strong pitching effort for the Seahawks won them the second game of the doubleheader, 6-3.
Eleven of Briarcliffe’s 21 outs came via strikeout, as Vincent Aprano and Kurt Stettner went through NHTI batters.
The strong pitching carried over to Sunday’s game, as the Seahawks again defeated NHTI, 8-1, completing the three-game sweep.
Junior Chris Brezinski went seven innings, giving up one earned run, while striking out eight batters.
The Seahawks did most of their damage in the middle innings. During the third inning, Briarcliffe rattled off three runs on a two-out rally, and crossed three more over the plate in the fourth.
Briarcliffe will next take the field Wednesday, when they host Monroe Community College in a doubleheader.
