Suffolk To Spray South Shore Beaches For Mosquitoes
The spraying will be conducted by helicopter in marshy areas. Will it be near your home?
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk's Department of Public Works’ Division of Vector Control has plans to treat parts of marshes by helicopter to control mosquito larvae Tuesday and Wednesday.
The spraying will be conducted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The name of the pesticide that will be applied is VectoPrime FG [Bti, or Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis, and Altosid, or Methoprene.
The products used by Vector Control are registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state's Department of Environmental Conservation. They are applied in accordance with the required state and federal permits, according to county officials.

No precautions are recommended to prepare for the spraying, as the helicopter will be flying at a very low level over marsh areas and precautions will be taken to control drift into inhabited areas, officials said.
Human exposure from this operation is unlikely and the products involved have no significant human toxicity, according to officials.
