Reading is important. How important? Studies have shown that…never mind. You have heard it all before right? That’s the crisis teacher’s face. They know that forcing kids to read does not instill a love of reading, but they also know that kids have to read. That is why kids are sent home with summer reading lists, and parents come in to the library all summer long looking for books they may or may not have heard of.
The library wants to help. We want to have as many of the books as possible on hand for you when your kids need them. Please email us your Summer Reading lists or ask your school to email us your Summer Reading lists at reference@pmlib.org.
In addition, as part of our Summer Reading Club, we are willing to “offer prizes” to the members of your whole family for reading! Our children and teen Summer Reading Clubs are a great way for you to reward your youth for reading, and a great way for you to reward yourself for modeling a positive behavior for youth in your community. Children should come to the library ahead of time and check out books and read them so that they are ready to join and report beginning June 21! That is how they join, when they make their first report!
And be sure to bring your library card with you on that first visit! We use it to sign them up.
Children in grades 2-6 earn a credit for each book they read and report on. Other ways to earn credits include doing puzzles, playing games and reading books over 100 pages!
We have a club for babies and a club for children in K & 1st grade too.
There are a lot of great programs to sign up for too. Watch the SRC video for more info http://ow.ly/m0P3S

Adults (18+)
- Adults can participate in Summer Reading as well!
- For every book you read or listen to, that you have checked out from the library, you get a chance for a prize!
- No meetings to attend, no specific books you have to read!
- Read whatever book you want, on whatever subject you want.
- We will provide lists with some suggestions, as well as librarians who can help you track down the perfect summer book.
- Just fill out a raffle card with some basic info on the book and enter it into a drawing.
- All drawings will be held at the end of the club so you have lots of time to try for prizes!
