Town Planning Board Rescinds Walmart Traffic Study, Holding Public Meeting on June 23
Monday's meeting will not have a public hearing on a E. Patchogue Walmart.
A possible East Patchogue Walmart will not be on the agenda for the Town of Brookhaven Planning Board’s Monday meeting, as the board has rescinded its initial acceptance of the Draft Environmental Impact Study (DEIS) submitted by Walmart.
Instead, the town announced on its website that it's looking for additional public comment on the topic and is holding a Public Scoping meeting on June 23 at 7 p.m. at the Brookhaven Town Hall auditorium, 1 Independence Hill in Farmingville.
The DEIS submitted by Walmart is a traffic study regarding their perspective of the impact the store would have on the community. The Brookhaven Town Planning Board accepted, but did not approve, the study at a May 9 meeting, Brookhaven Town Councilman Tim Mazzei said at a .
As previously reported, the issue surrounding the new Walmart store was last presented in June 2010, when the Town of Brookhaven that would have allowed for the construction of a 108,000 square foot store at the intersection of Hospital Road and Sunrise Highway. The zoning change permits the construction of a smaller 98,000 square foot store, which is currently being presented to the planning board.

Public Notice Regarding Wal-Mart at East Patchogue DEIS
The Planning Board has decided to rescind the Acceptation of the DEIS Walmart at East Patchogue and solicit additional public input on this project. A Public Scoping meeting will be held on June 23, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Brookhaven Town Hall Auditorium. There will be no public hearing during the June 6th meeting of the Planning Board at Brookhaven Town Hall. Contact the Division of Environmental Protection at 451-9265 regarding SEQRA procedures.
