Trash-Hauling Company Unexpectedly Ends Contract With Town
The company announced it would not be collecting trash starting on New Year's Eve, affecting 7 communities within Brookhaven Town,
TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN, NY - It was a trashy new year for some residents in the Town of Brookhaven. In a press release from Brookhaven Town, officials said they were informed Tuesday at noon that the trash hauling company, Quick-Way sanitation, would not be honoring their contract to collect garbage from areas within the town, effective immediately.
The company collects the trash from homes in the communities of Shoreham, Rocky Point, Port Jefferson Station, Farmingville, East Patchogue and Manorville. These areas make up 20 percent of the carting districts within the Town of Brookhaven.
On Wednesday, town officials announced that they have entered into emergency award agreements with several local companies to provide immediate garbage pick-up in the affected communities.

"These firms have all previously or currently provided residential garbage pick-up within Brookhaven," the town wrote in a statement. "These companies will begin immediately to provide our residents with uninterrupted service. Because they will be new to these service areas, we ask residents in these areas to be patient as they learn these routes."
The new service is set to begin Thursday. Residents should call 631-451-TOWN if their garbage has not been collected by late afternoon.

Town officials say that Quick-Way was one year into a multi-year contract after successfully bidding for residential refuse and recycling services. Following the abrupt announcement, town officials say they intend to "pursue every available legal option as a result of this carter’s unacceptable actions."
Patch reached out to Quick-Way for a comment but did not receive a response at press time.
