Woman Dies After SUV Strikes Her On Sunrise Highway In Suffolk County: Cops

She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY — A 62-year-old woman was struck by an SUV and killed Thursday morning as she walked on Sunrise Highway in East Patchogue, Suffolk police said.

A 2011 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 53-year-old Hampton Bays man was heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway, west of Hospital Road, around 5 a.m., when the SUV struck Juliann McSweeney, police said. McSweeney, of East Patchogue, was walking in the left lane, according to police.

She died at the scene. The driver, as well as his four passengers, were not hurt, police said.

The SUV was impounded for a safety check, according to police.

The crash was one of two serious ones between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. An E-bike rider was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in Selden.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call police at 631-854-8552.
