Cops Injured Making Arrests in Pearl River on Sunday

One incident was a large fight on South Main Street.

Two officers were injured Sunday in separate incidents in Pearl River.

One injured his elbow when breaking up a large fight on South Main Street. Orangetown police said Steven Hylas, 21, of Stony Point, flailed his arms and tried to get away from officers while he was being arrested for disorderly conduct. The officer sustained an injury to his right elbow that required medical attention.

Now Hylas is due in Orangetown court March 23 to answer charges of disorderly conduct, a violation; plus second degree assault, a felony; and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

In a separate incident, police were called to Route 304 on a criminal mischief complaint.

At the scene, Park Ridge, New Jersey resident Michal Hrebik wa identified as the person who had damaged a vehicle. Police allege he resisted arrest, flailing his arms, refusing to put his arms behind his back and pushing and shoving the officers. An officer sustained an injury to his right hand that required medical attention.

Hrebik is due in court March 23 to answer charges of second-degree assault, a felony; third-degree criminal mischief, a felony; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor; disorderly conduct, a violation; and second-degree harassment, a violation.
