Pearl River High Schoolers Inducted Into Social Studies Honor Society
On Tuesday, 87 Pearl River High School students were inducted into the Rho Kappa Honor Society/
At a very quick ceremony Tuesday night, 87 Pearl River High School seniors and juniors were inducted into the Rho Kappa Honor Society.
Rho Kappa is a national honor society for juniors and seniors that excel in their social studies classes. Three seniors were inducted along with 84 juniors.
Rho Kappa Co-President Samuel Berry acted as the master of ceremonies and his co-president, Corinna Lin, gave the welcoming address, where she discussed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
John Brebbia, vice president, and Caitlin Kenny, secretary, lit the candles for the ceremony. Cathleen MacDonald, a social studies teacher at the school, closed out the ceremony, which ended in less than 15 minutes.
“If they did the graduation ceremony, it’d be over in about 10 minutes,” joked Pearl River Superintendent Dr. John Morgano.
The speed of the event was helpful for Kenny, who was honored by the Orangetown Substance Abuse Committee later in the evening during the Orangetown Town Board meeting.
