Orangetown Resident Accused of Tax Fraud

The DA says he didn't report $20,000 in income; now he's in jail.

PEARL RIVER, NY — Jason Harte of Palisades, New York is accused of failing to report income to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, and has been charged with three counts of Criminal Tax Fraud in the Fourth Degree, class “E” Felonies.

“This defendant is alleged to have withheld taxes that he was legally obligated to pay as a New York State Resident,” Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said in the announcement. “Our local municipalities and the state rely on collected tax dollars to fund programs and services for the public. Each of us must pay our fair share. Cheating the system is a paper crime that makes every New Yorker a victim.”

Harte was arrested on Oct. 24 by members of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit and the New York State Department of Tax and Finance. According to the charges, Harte failed to pay more than $20,000 in income tax to the State of New York.
