Rockland County Concert Band Entertains at Library

The Rockland County Concert Band held its annual summer concert at the Pearl River Library Aug. 11.

Although they were only in the community room, the Rockland County Concert Band filled the entire Pearl River Public Library with music ranging from band classics to musical theater Thursday.

The band rehearses in various places in Rockland on Tuesday nights, most recently using the facilities at the Pearl River High School. Once the Rockland Consevatory of Music finishes moving to its new home in Pearl River, the band plans to practice there.

Members have an ongoing year-round concert schedule of shows throughout the county. A popular concert of theirs is the Halloween show at SUNY Rockland.

Led by Larry Zaidan, the band performed familiar pieces from My Fair Lady and The King and I, as well as a new favorite Armenian Dances by Alfred Reed.

"I feel the band played very well," said trumpet player and Pearl River native Evan Fleischer. "I think that we were able to bring a variety of music, both familiar and challenging classic reportire, to the people of Pearl River and they liked it a lot."
