Thruway Toll Collector Arrested in Rockland Tuesday
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police and the Thruway Authority Audit Division and Management Services.
PEARL RIVER, NY — The New York State Thruway Authority's auditors have been checking into money issues at the Spring Valley Toll Booth. The investigation culminated Tuesday morning when a Pearl River man was arrested.
Matthew F. Carle, 61, is charged with Falsifying Business Records 1st degree, a felony, and petty larceny, a misdemeanor, according to state police.
Carle was a part-time toll collector, a Thruway spokesperson said. The Thruway Authority issued a statement:

“The Thruway Authority has removed the employee from the workplace. We take great pride in the good customer service provided by our toll collectors who are hardworking, courteous and helpful to customers, and all appropriate actions will be taken so a high level of service is maintained system-wide.”
The arrest stemmed from an on-going investigation of money being stolen from the Spring Valley Toll Booth, police said. The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police, New York State Thruway Authority Audit Division and Management Services.

Carle was transported and processed at State Police offices in Haverstraw. He was released on an appearance ticket which was made returnable to the Village of Spring Valley Court.
