PEEKSKILL, NY — Two electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in Peekskill. One is at Riverfront Green Park and the other in the Park Street parking lot. City officials hosted a ribbon cutting celebration on Friday.

The stations were installed through through $32,000 in grant funding from the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation's Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Rebate Program.

"This is an exciting time for the City as we continue to make responsible environmental decisions for today and tomorrow,” said Peekskill City Planner Jesica Youngblood. “With these charging stations, we are able to offer both residents and visitors the chance to ‘charge up’ while enjoying one of Peekskill’s restaurants or entertainment, cultural, and artisanal establishments."

The environmentally conscious project aims to aid in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and encourage alternative transportation choices for the residents and patrons of Peekskill.

"New York State is proud to be a funding partner for the City of Peekskill in helping install new electric vehicle charging stations in the city," said DEC Regional Director Kelly Turturro. “These efforts will make Peekskill more environmentally friendly and help the region and New York State reach our nation-leading goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions."

The charging stations are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and free of charge. Users are asked to limit their charge time to four hours maximum out of consideration for other customers.

“ChargePoint is excited to partner with the City of Peekskill to expand access to charging and help make the transition to electric vehicle easier,” said Olivia Marcinka, Communications Specialist for ChargePoint. “As more electric vehicles hit the market, we are honored to be a part of this local initiative to establish interconnectedness across communities and help build a network throughout the state that supports New York’s commitment to the transition to electric.”

EV charging is an important tool in helping governments and businesses meet their sustainability objectives and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Marcinka said.

Additional information about the stations and how to use them is available on the City of Peekskill’s website.
