Albany Man Accused Of Firing Shots At Car In Road-Rage Incident

Peekskill police said they found several weapons in the man's home in Albany.

PEEKSKILL, NY — A road-rage incident in Peekskill involved shots being fired at a car and its driver, police said.

The City of Peekskill Police Department said, around 9 p.m. Friday, officers were sent to southbound Route 9 near Welcher Avenue for a report of road rage involving two cars.

According to law enforcement, one of the persons fired three shots from a rifle at the other car.

Police said the initial investigation found the two cars were traveling south on Route 9 when Jose Fernandez, 33, of Albany, stopped suddenly, resulting in a minor rear-end collision.

Fernandez, according to the authorities, got out of his car and fire three rounds from a high-powered rifle at the other person, striking the car three times.

He then fled in an unknown direction, police said.

With the assistance of Westchester County's Real Time Crime Center and the Albany Police Department, Fernandez's vehicle was located in Albany.

On Saturday morning, Peekskill police detectives went to Albany and executed a search warrant on his car, which was seized as evidence.

Fernandez was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

An additional search warrant was executed at his home, which yielded several firearms including the AK-47 used in the Peekskill incident, police said.

Fernandez was taken back to Peekskill where he was held at the police department pending an arraignment Monday.

He was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, both felonies.

Fernandez was sent to Westchester County Jail on $200,000 bail.
