Owners and longtime area residents Cliff Mascarenhas and Naomi Vogt describe years of zoning fights, financial strain, and personal health struggles that led to opening, and say they want to keep prices accessible while building community connections, including with Spanish-speaking residents.
• The Central Is Sidelined as Owners 'Re-evaluate Operations' (peekskillherald.com) — The Central restaurant at Peekskill's Metro-North station has closed indefinitely as its owners reassess operations and consider bringing in a new partner. Employees were given just days' notice, and one owner is now working with the MTA and offering staff jobs at his other local businesses while also criticizing long-stalled waterfront development he believes hurt the area's potential.
• Boys soccer scoreboard, schedule for week of Sept. 1 (lohud.com) — Peekskill boys soccer opens its regular season Friday, Sept. 4, facing Pawling at Torpy Field at 5 p.m., one of many matchups in a busy opening week. The regional schedule lists daily games, tournaments, and locations through Sunday, giving local fans a clear guide to when and where to catch nearby high school action this week.
