Buchanan Election Is Tuesday

The village's mayor faces a challenger.

BUCHANAN, NY — The biggest issue facing the village is how to cope with the closing of the Indian Point nuclear power facility. Its owner, Entergy provides roughly 46 percent of Buchanan's annual budget through its PILOT agreement.

This year in the village elections, Mayor Theresa Knickerbocker is running for a third term. She is being challenged by Robert Lupica, who ran unsuccessfully last year for a seat on the Board of Trustees.

Knickerbocker, a veteran of Buchanan politics, is on the ballot on the Democratic and Resident's Party lines. Lupica has the Republican line.
