Burglary and Contempt Charges for Verplanck Man
State police said the 29-year-old was arrested after a domestic disturbance.

CORTLANDT, NY – A Verplanck man faces burglary and contempt charges after a domestic disturbance Friday.
On March 10, New York State Police from the Cortlandt Barracks arrested Michael R. Schmidt, 29 and charged him with Burglary in the 2nd Degree, a Class C Felony, and Criminal Contempt 1st Degree, a Class E Felony.
Police said troopers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on 5th Street in Verplanck. Their investigation indicated that Schmidt unlawfully entered the victim's home, violating an order of protection.

He reportedly choked the victim and fled the residence when a Good Samaritan overheard the commotion confronted him. Police arrived on scene and placed Schmidt in custody. He was arraigned by the Town of Cortlandt Justice McCarthy and remanded to the Westchester County Jail.
Schmidt is scheduled to return to the Town of Cortlandt Court on March 16.
