Based on The Untethered Soul by Michael A. Singer, this workshop led by Ann Elizabeth Byrne from Hudson Valley Meditation &amp; Reiki introduces the practice of noticing thoughts and emotions without becoming caught up in them.
After a brief overview of the book's central ideas, you will be guided through a meditation designed to create space and awareness. &nbsp;Reiki energy is offered to support release and relaxation, followed by singing bowls to help settle the mind and body. &nbsp;The session closes with reflection on what you noticed and how this awareness can support daily life.&nbsp; Visit the library's Web site to register.

The Untethered Soul:  Meditation for Observing the Mind

Win “Coal” Keegan has just landed in his latest foster home, with a big, noisy, slightly nosy family named the McKays. They seem eager to welcome Coal, but he’s wary of trusting them. So, he doesn’t tell them that he went for a walk with chalk in his pocket to cover a nearby street with his art. He doesn’t tell them that a neighbor found Coal drawing, pulled a gun on him, and fired it. He doesn’t tell them the police chased him. And he definitely doesn’t tell them that when everything went down, Coal somehow turned invisible.&nbsp; But he did.&nbsp;
Now he has to figure out how. Is he a superhero? Some kind of mutant? A science experiment? Is that why he has no family of his own? As Coal searches for answers and slowly learns to control his invisibility, he turns to the McKay kids and friends both new and old for help. But they soon discover they’re not the only ones looking for a Black boy with superpowers, and the situation is far stranger—and more dangerous—than they ever could have expected.

We are offering this Zoom presentation to help families of high school juniors, sophomores, and freshmen better understand the college admissions process and how to successfully navigate today’s changing landscape.
The session will cover current college admissions trends and strategies, the evolving test optional environment, the importance of researching and visiting colleges to find the right fit, and key timelines and action steps that can make this fall productive while easing stress around the college admissions process.
We will also take a close look at the holistic admissions review process, including what admissions officers value when evaluating applicants and how students can develop a strong personal narrative that reflects their strengths, interests, character, and experiences.
Another focus will be on the role of community service and the growing importance of meaningful “passion projects.” We will discuss how students can turn their interests, values, and experiences into authentic activities that foster personal growth, demonstrate character, and show positive impact. Admissions officers place great emphasis on character, and thoughtful service can help students show initiative, empathy, and a genuine commitment to helping their communities.
This program is recommended for parents and their high school teens. It provides a clear and strategic overview of what students should prioritize this fall for a successful college admissions journey and how to approach the process with confidence and less stress.
