Donovan to Swing Through Hudson Valley in National Tour Celebrating 50 Years Since “Sunshine Superman”

The artist who inspired "Flower Power" will play the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on Sept. 18.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of his #1 hit “Sunshine Superman,” Donovan has announced a U.S. tour that will include a performance at the classic Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on Sept. 18.

The Peekskill show will be three days after Donovan’s return to New York’s Carnegie Hall, his first performance there since February of 1966. That show sold out within days of going on sale. The single “Sunshine Superman” rose to the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on Sept. 3, 1966.

Tickets for “Donovan: The Retrospective/Sunshine Superman Fiftieth Anniversary Tour 2016” at The Paramount are on sale at wmconcerts.com, paramounthudsonvalley.com and at the Paramount box office. A small number of VIP “meet and greet” tickets are being sold on www.donovan.ie to benefit the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace.

After a breakthrough and historic period of hit recordings, Donovan actively and consistently performed live, and today remains a towering icon of rock’s golden age. He played with and influenced generations of music’s greats while releasing a canon of music that changed the world.

Donovan met and traded songs with Bob Dylan during Dylan’s 1965 U.K. tour and was a friend of, and an influence on the Beatles. For a time, his sidemen were John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page (with John Bonham occasionally coming by), a pairing that would lead to great things, to say the least.

It was said at his 2012 Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame induction that, at age 16, “Donovan singlehandedly initiated the psychedelic revolution with (the album) Sunshine Superman.” The recording announced “flower power” for the first time. It has also been said that Donovan is “chiefly responsible for introducing meditation and Eastern philosophy into modern lifestyle and songwriting.” Now, 50 years after his historic debut U.S. appearance, he returns for an anniversary tour, putting our musical history and the genesis of a vast music culture once again before our eyes.

There are dozens more, but his best loved songs include Catch The Wind, Sunshine Superman, Season of the Witch, Lalena, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Atlantis, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, Epistle to Dippy, There Is A Mountain, Jennifer Juniper, Barabajagal, To Susan on the West Coast Waiting, and Happiness Runs.

A long time player of Gibson Guitars, Donovan, will use his signature Gibson J-45 guitar on stage at Jordan Hall. This J-45 is the same guitar he used to write “Sunshine Superman”, as well as most of the songs featured on the “Sunrise Superman” album.

Donovan’s daughter Astrella will launch the “Musical T’s Collection” to coincide with the 50 th anniversary tour. The new luxury T-shirt line features reimagined renderings of Donovan’s classic album covers. The shirts come with a patent-protected technology that allows buyers to download music from the albums depicted on the shirts. A portion of each T-shirt sale benefits Donovan’s lifelong mission to teach transcendental meditation to school children in his home country of Scotland.
