Don't Miss Peekskill Rotary Horse Show & Country Fair Sept. 29-30

PEEKSKILL, NY — Put this on your calendar. The Rotary Club of Peekskill is preparing to host its 48th annual Horse Show and Country Fair September 29-30 at the Blue Mountain Reservation.

It's been going on so long because it's so much fun. Thousands of people attend the event each year. Even if you're not interested in horses, there's a lot to do.

Fair attractions include pony and hay rides, a country fair and craft market, bounce and slide rides for the children. A “Kountry Kitchen” will offer home-baked goods, pumpkins, apples and mums, and in the food tent, Rotarians will serve up burgers, hot dogs, chicken, sausage and peppers, fries, beverages, ice cream and pretzels

And horses are beautiful to watch, as is the spectacle of athletes (horse and human) competing in events. It's fun even if you aren't conversant with the intricacies of riding competitions.

This is the only show in Westchester County with competitions in both English and Western riding. There are 28 Western classes with eight championships on Saturday, and 28 English classes with eight championships on Sunday. Riders from stables throughout the tri-state area participate in the show

Chartered 99 years ago, the Peekskill Rotary has about 85 members from Cortlandt and Peekskill. This is the club’s main fundraiser and it aims to raise upwards of $25,000.

All proceeds go to charity and various scholarships for local high school students, etc. Past beneficiaries include Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corp, Drug Crisis in Our Backyard, St. Christopher’s Inn Rehabilitation, Peers Influencing Peers, etc.

Admission and parking are free and competition and attractions will run from 9AM-5PM Sept. 29 and from 8AM-5PM Sept. 30.
