The History & Heroism of the Tuskegee Airmen and the Story of Capt. Albert Gaines--Tuskegee Airman, Community Leader and Achiever, sponsored by The Van Cortlandtvile Historical Society. Open free to the public.
Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Quincy Magwood, a Tuskegee historian, will present a video/narrative program on the progression of African Americans in the U.S. military from the American Revolution through the Civil War and in both World Wars. He will illustrate the success of the Tuskegee Aviation Experiment (1939-49) and the Tuskegee Airmen and their heroic exploits during World War II. He is a "torch bearer" who works to keep their legacy alive.
Also participating in the program will be Viola Baldwin-Gaines of Cortlandt Manor, widow of Albert Gaines who was a captain with the Tuskegee Airmen and later a computer engineer with IBM. He was a well-known community leader and pioneer achiever in the State, Westchester County and the greater Cortlandt and Peekskill area for many years before his death in 2008.
