Marcy B. Freedman is an artist and . . . art historian.  These two aspects of her professional life will come crashing together when she presents a brand new performance piece called “The Bride Stripped Bare by Her Bachelors Even OR The Pros and Cons of SEX in Modern and Contemporary Art.”  Using projected images of famous artworks, Freedman will demonstrate the myriad ways in which sexual topics have been treated by artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.  Her presentation will combine solid academic research on artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Jeff Koons, Hannah Wilke and others with her own quirky ideas about

the erotic power – or lack thereof – in certain modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, videos and performances.  Freedman’s integration of the serious with the silly will inspire her audience to think and to laugh.

Performance by Brooke McGowen: ‘Molly Bloom’

This performance involves the reading and actionistic interpretation of some short passages from James Joyce’s controversial masterpiece, Ulysses, from the last chapter, the monologue of Molly Bloom, the intimate literary journey into a woman’s soul through the words of one of the greatest writers of all times.
