         The Flat Iron Gallery, located at 105 So. Division St., Peekskill, N.Y. will have a new solo art exhibit for White Plains artist, Mitchell Visoky, for the month of September.            

The show is entitled, “The Waxed Surface, A Journey in Encaustics” featuring recent works that are inspired by natural and manmade forms. Visoky’s experience as a printmaker specializing in textural monotypes is incorporated into his new encaustic paintings. The artist states: “The wax medium allows me to continually rework areas by scraping, repainting, and layering color.”

This superb exhibit in which the artist explores the elements of design and strives to achieve “an appropriate tension and correlation between forms by balancing opposites” will be on display from September 6th-30th, 2012. An artist’s reception will be held Sunday, Sept. 9th,  from 1-4 pm.

 Visoky is an award-winning artist who has had numerous solo and group exhibits in the  metropolitan area. He has been an art professsor at the College of New Rochelle and Manhattanville College and has taught art in the Croton public schools. From 2001-2003 Visoky was President of the New York State Art Teachers Association and he is currently president of the Mamaroneck Artists Guild. Visoky is an active member of the Westchester Arts Council, The Katonah Museum Artist’s Association, the Greenwich Art Council, the Arts Council of Rockland, and the New Rochelle Art Association.

The Flat Iron Gallery has four exhibit rooms on the 2nd and 3rd floor of Peekskill’s historic “Flatiron Building” located in growing downtown art district. It will be celebrating its 18th anniversary this November and specializes in contemporary fine art and handcrafted jewelry.
