Hen Hud Plans To Raise Spending Less Than 1% for 2019-20

There will be a School Budget Meet-and-Greet on Saturday in Buchanan.

CORTLANDT, NY — Voters in the Hendrick Hudson school district will go to the polls May 21 to have their say on the budget for the 2019-20 school year. The proposed spending package is $80,040,270, up 0.64% from the current year.

The tax levy increase is 2.635%, just lower than the property tax cap of 2.64% this year.

Tax rates are calculated in the district for two municipalities; most of the district's taxable properties are in the town of Cortlandt, and about 10% are in a section of southwest Peekskill that includes about 380 households. The district has about 2,300 students.

The facilities budget for 2019-20 will support general maintenance, repair and renovation work throughout the district, officials said, including painting of classrooms and hallways; replacement of carpet and floor tile in select areas; electrical and plumbing upgrades; repair and/or replacement of doors and hardware for interior and exterior spaces; and improvements to school building security systems, which may include cameras, intrusion detection systems, safety devices, etc.

There will be a School Budget Meet-and-Greet on Saturday. Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter and members of the Board of Education will be available to meet community members from 9-10:30 a.m. at Dunkin Donuts at 113 Albany Post Road in Buchanan for informal discussion.
