CORTLANDT, NY — An Army National Guardsman saved a 10-year-old boy from falling off a cliff on Anthony's Nose, holding him fast until firefighters could rescue the pair.

Cortlandt resident Lawrence Chiulli told The Journal News that he was hiking with his mother and girlfriend Thursday when they joined a family frantically searching for a missing child. He found the boy hanging off a cliff, exhausted, and scrambled up to the precarious position to hold him until help arrived.

He was about 30 feet above Route 9D near one of the trail entrances to Anthony's Nose.
