The actions taken by Indian Point following the discovery of dry boron in a backup cooling system displays the meticulous safe operation at the plant (Boron-Water Leak Closes Indian Point Unit 3, Sept. 12).
While dry boron is only sometimes an indication of a leak, no risk is too small for Indian Point’s dedicated employees, hundreds of whom live in the area, have raised families here, and have committed their professional careers to the safety of the surrounding communities. This latest announcement is additional proof that Indian Point is in safe hands.
We’re fortunate that Indian Point has three years of operation left. During that time, these same safety standards will apply, including the oversight of independent safety experts from the NRC, and will continue until the last day of operations.
