Indian Point Shutdown: Due to Faulty Fan

The nuclear reactor's Unit 2 was shutdown Saturday evening, according to officials.

BUCHANAN, NY - A faulty roof fan has been identified as the cause for the shutdown of the Indian Point unit 2 reactor Saturday evening, reports The Journal News.

The fan malfunction caused a power loss to several control rods, which triggered the need for a manual shutdown.

Officials from Entergy Corp., owner/operator of the Indian Point facility, said the shutdown did not cause the release of any radioactivity, and the unit is expected to be back online and working again by today or Wednesday.
