Lakeland Voters Heard On School Budget And Board

Here are the unofficial results from Tuesday's vote.

Budgets, capital projects and board candidates were on the ballots for school districts across New York State. Two of the districts in Westchester County asked voters to OK going over the state's mandated property tax cap.

Not Lakeland, where the budget passed by a comfortable margin in a light turnout. The capital project was approved/disapproved by voters. XX and XX were elected to the Board of Education.

The spending package is $166,574,338, up 2.37 percent from the current year. The tax levy increase is 0.95 percent, below the state mandated property tax cap. The second proposition on the ballot is because the district is seeking to replace some high-mileage vehicles. The proposition authorizes purchase of seven large buses; five 30-passenger buses, three 20-passenger buses, two wheelchair-enabled vans, and two suburbans. The vehicles being replaced are costly to maintain given their age and high mileage. The total cost of this year's proposition will be $1,425,000.
