Here are some details about Gutkin:
Lisa is a Grammy-winning composer for her settings of Woody Guthrie's lyrics on the Klezmatics' CD "Wonder Wheel," which Pete Seeger called “genius.”
She played fiddle in Sting’s Broadway show "The Last Ship,” and has composed music for and appeared in Sex & the City as well as Paula Vogel's recent Off-Broadway hit “Indecent.”
Lisa's affinity for songs began while working in Fast Folk with Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, and Richard Shindell, and later with Natalie Merchant, Susan McKeown and Pete Seeger.
All along, this consummate sideman and bandmember has secretly longed to sing her own songs. On her new CD From Here On In, Ms. Gutkin sings. The album is a set of warm and welcoming original songs featuring lyrics by Woody Guthrie, Maggie Dubris and Lisa herself. Recorded in the Hudson Valley and produced by John Lissauer (Leonard Cohen, Loudon Wainwright), it includes special guests including Vaneese Thomas and Buddy Cage.
“Having spent all of my summers in the Hudson Valley, I have a huge attachment to its beauty," Gutkin said in a press release. "I am grateful to ResistAIM--and especially to its members who were willing to get arrested-- in spreading awareness of the risks of the Spectra Pipeline. I'm very happy to support their efforts."
