March For Justice To Walk From NYC To Albany

The end-of-summer event will bring attention to issues in NY prisons and jails. Here's the Hudson Valley schedule and how to help.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The Hudson Valley will be the backdrop for a social justice event from the end of August to the middle of September. The March for Justice is an undertaking by the Alliance of Families for Justice–NY to bring attention to human rights abuses in New York State prisons and jails. The AFJ helps families overcome the financial, social and emotional loss when a loved one is incarcerated and also helps them prepare for his or her re-entry.

The march will start in New York City on Aug. 26 and culminate in a press conference and rally in Albany on Sept. 13, the anniversary of the 1971 Attica uprising and massacre.

Some of the key issues the organization is pursuing in its 2017 Policy Platform:
  • Raising the age of criminal responsibility
  • Increasing family visitation to prisons
  • Meaningful reform of the use of solitary confinemen
  • Ending human rights abuses in NY’s prisons and jails and closing Attica
  • Meaningful reform of the parole system
  • Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act (DVSJA) Campaign
