Noted Photographer Ocean Morisset to Lead Workshops at Field Library

Ocean Morisset's May 6th and 13th intense photography workshops go beyond technique to think Zen, discovery and mindfulness.

The Zen of Photography is a small group, two-part workshop led by widely-exhibited Peekskill photographer Ocean Morisset. In Part I, participants will walk around downtown Peekskill and Depew Park, taking photographs and learning to hone their skills of seeing as opposed to looking. In Part II, there will be a slideshow and discussion of the participant’s photographs and their experiences of being mindful while shooting.
As Morisset explains: “One definition of Zen suggests that its purpose is to make us wonder and to answer that wondering with the deepest expression of our own nature. Learning to see the extraordinary in the ordinary is what is known in Zen as “the miracle of mindfulness.” We strive to learn to appreciate the present moment, to appreciate what is right in front of us, rather than always having our mind on results or on the next thing we have to do. The art of photography demands such awareness, such mindfulness from the photographer.”
What do the photos reveal about the photographer? What types of self-discoveries are made in the act of being mindful while photographing? These are two key questions workshop participants will explore.
Workshop is limited to ten participants. Sign up is required at the front desk, or call 914-862-3287 with email and phone number.
