Peekskill Students Win at Westchester Science & Engineering Fair
Twelve students from the Peekskill High School Science Research Program participated in the fair. Students took home four awards.
A group of Peekskill High School Science Research (PSR) students attended the Westchester Science and Engineering Fair (WESEF) at Sleepy Hollow High School on Saturday, March 16. The team of dedicated PHS student researchers consisted of twelve junior and senior students, who were among a total of 670 student competitors from Westchester and Putnam Counties. Each researched their projects for months to prepare for the poster competition and their hard work was evident in their work. The students' great efforts were recognized by both judges and attendees. The following Peekskill students received awards at the event:
Sarai Sales, a junior, won the Innovations in Biological Sciences Research Award and $25 for her research on "The Impact of Metformin in Combination with Carbohydrate-Modified Diet on Weight Management Among Patients at Risk for Diabetes Mellitus."
Samantha Saca, a junior won the Greg Horace Creative Approach to Research Award and $50 for her research on "Micro-RNA 21 Association with Nitrogen Mustard Treated Skin on Mouse Kerotinocyte PM212 Cell."

The Luke Torres-Rossi and Nicolas Holman team won two awards - the Stockholm Junior Water Prize and a nomination to go to Sweden, and a third place medal in their category for their team project on "The Impact of Population Density on Microplastic Pollution Near Hudson River Shorelines."
