Prevention, Addiction, Recovery and Treatment Explored at Cortlandt Community Coalition Presentation

Hear from experts on how to keep Cortlandt teens healthy

The Cortlandt Community Coalition will present a community seminar entitled “Doing Our PART for Teens: Prevention, Addiction, Recovery and Treatment” on how to prevent drug and alcohol addiction among teens, explore how and why teens get addicted, discuss treatment options and recent changes in health insurance laws governing treatment, and the challenges of being in recovery—all in just 90 minutes.

Experts will be presenting the latest findings, trends and options to the public on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Muriel H. Morabito Community Center, 29 Westbrook Drive, Cortlandt Manor NY. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.

Ellen Morehouse, LCSW, CASAC, CPP, who is the Executive Director of Student Assistance Services. Morehouse will provide prevention tips for parents; Stephanie Marquesano, founder of the harris project and an advocate for teens and young adults with co-occurring disorders, will focus on mental health challenges and substance use; Mike Ahearn is a Recovery Coach and will share his experience with addiction and discuss signs of potential teenage addiction that parents may miss; Dr. Alicia Murray is a Board Certified Psychiatrist and Board Certified Addiction Psychiatrist. She will focus on the connection between mental health and addiction.

“We have assembled a noted group of experts who can provide us with guidance and answer questions from concerned parents. Every time we offer an informational seminar like this, we are hoping to change and save lives. Knowledge shared during this event will provide Cortlandt parents with information about protecting their child's future,” said Linda Puglisi, Cortlandt Town Supervisor.
