Reports of Shots Sent Peekskill Schools into 'Lockout' This Morning
The all-clear was sounded and students were dismissed as usual.

Reports of shots fired in Peekskill this morning sent police into the streets and city schools into lockout.
At 1:15 p.m. the district posted this on its website and informed parents by robocall:
This is Superintendent of Schools Larry Licopoli calling to advise you I have been given the all clear by the Peekskill Police. The lockout is now lifted and students will be dismissed as usual. Thank you for your understanding.

A ‘lockout’ is not the same as a ‘lockdown.’ During the former, students stay inside and go about their day, while school staff make sure all entrances are locked. The latter includes more drastic measures, when a threat could be inside a school.
