Security Training Exercise at Indian Point Nov. 18

Laser technology will simulate gunfire.

Anyone near Indian Point on Tuesday may hear the sound of gunfire.

That’s because a security training drill will be taking place, including simulated guns.

Participants will be carrying out simulated attack scenarios that have been designed to be as realistic as possible, said a spokesperson for Entergy and the Indian Point Energy Center.

Entergy is using innovative Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement Systems, a technology which involves laser “bullets” and vests which vests with laser-detection equipment. MILES equipment is used around the country for military and counter-terrorism training.

Local law enforcement officials have been notified of the drill, which will take place during part of the day and evening.
