Two Yorktown Restaurateurs to Open Area's Newest Steakhouse

The Chophouse Grille will feature aged steak and fresh seafood.

Two veteran Yorktown restaurateurs will offer 'exquisite experience' at the area’s newest steakhouse – The Chophouse Grille – which plans to open its doors on Aug. 1 in Mahopac.

Matt Camerino and Toni Vulaj, who until recently worked side by side managing  in Mohegan Lake, said they hoped to bring a healthy dose of professionalism and attention to detail to their new Putnam County eatery and hangout.

The Chophouse Grille will be located at 957 Route 6 Plaza in Mahopac. The new restaurant, bar and lounge will feature premium aged steak, fresh seafood and a range of offerings for Happy Hour.

"We wanted to do things the right way," said Vulaj, who has been associated with a number of premium steak houses in the area. "People need to know that they can come in for an exquisite New York City-esque experience without having to break the bank or drive down to the city."

The Chophouse Grille already has a following even before the doors open, the owners said.

"We’ve made a lot of relationships with a lot of people in the area and we know that those relationships will translate into a running start and a ready-made atmosphere for The Chophouse Grille," the owners said.

Happy Hour is expected to be a big draw six days a week. Two-for-one beers and glasses of wine as well as $2 off cocktails to wash down the discounted appetizers, which include steak tips and clams “your way,” are expected to keep the after-work crowd happy and coming back.

The bar crowd isn’t the only one to get a good deal throughout the week. The Chophouse will offer its patrons a complimentary glass of wine with an entree on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as half-off bottles of wine with dinner on Thursdays.

The menu, described as simple but exciting, will feature creative salads and pasta dishes (also available in whole wheat) that complement the selections of premium steak and fresh seafood. Daily specials will be spoken tableside in addition to the carefully thought out menu. For dessert, Chophouse will have an array of homemade choices, including a special banana fontaine, Crembrulee, New York Cheesecake and apple strudel.

The Chophouse Grille, near K-mart and east of the firehouse, will be open Tuesday through Sunday. It is located at 957 Route 6 Plaza in Mahopac. The kitchen will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 11 p.m., and from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Happy Hour will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

While closed for lunch, Chophouse  will open its doors to anyone who wants to have a party or special event. For more information call Camerino or Vulaj at 845-628-8300.
