Unemployment Fraud Charges Leveled Against Peekskill Woman

She was gainfully employed while she allegedly collected unemployment benefits.

A Peekskill woman stands accused of unemployment insurance fraud.

The New York State Police said Maria Newsome, 39, allegedly unlawfully collected unemployment insurance benefits from November 2012 to November 2013. She was employed during that time.

Newsome was charged with first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a Class E felony.

She was issued an appearance ticket to return to the City of White Plains Court Nov. 19, police said.
