Union Opposes More Review of Pipeline Past Indian Point

Laborers Local 754 told FERC that recent calls by politicians for independent assessment was vote-pandering.

The business manager of Local 754 of the International Laborers Union has urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to dismiss the many recent requests by New York politicians for an independent risk assessment of the Algonquin Pipeline expansion project.

The project was approved earlier this year; however, in the past month many local and state officials have written asking that FERC put it on hold and get an independent risk assessment of the natural gas pipeline’s proximiity to the Indian Point nuclear plants.

“It has been over four years since this project has been submitted to FERC and there have been multiple hearings, studies and opportunities for people and political representatives to weigh in with any concerns...” wrote Stephen Reich in a letter submitted to FERC Sept. 2.
