Black Bear Captured in Yonkers this Morning

The bear was initially spotted near Desmond Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway a few days ago.

A black bear was tranquilized and captured in Yonkers early Wednesday morning in a wooded area near Central Park Avenue, according to media reports.

The bear was initially spotted near Desmond Avenue and the Bronx River Parkway a few days ago, writes WABC-TV.

Early Wednesday, it climbed a tree before being tranquilized by members of the Department of Environmental Conservation, reports The Journal News.

The bear will be transported to the Cranberry Mountain State Forest in Putnam County and released.

“A bear is nothing more than a large raccoon,” Tom Koepf of the Department of Environmental Conservation told WABC-TV. “If there’s food out they’re going to eat it, they’re just scavengers. You’ve got to have your garbage clean, you can’t have bird-feeders in your yard, you don’t want the bears coming through.”
