Hutch students collect $877.28 trick or treating for UNICEF to help other kids

STREETS OF PELHAM — Students collected $877.28 trick or treating for UNICEF on Halloween. That was more than the Student Government hoped to bring in.

Before Halloween, the Student Government sent out a letter saying that it hoped students would collect money for UNICEF. The letter said you could help children in need when you asked for change for the organization on Halloween night.

The little orange box for collecting the money listed what different amounts would do for the cause. Here’s what it said:

• 25 cents provides 10 children with water for one day
• $1 pays for protein biscuits for a starving child
• $19 buys three bed nets to protect from malaria
• $87 purchases a bicycle to get important medicines to remote places
• $257 provides a School-in-a-Box so children can learn anywhere

UNICEF’s motto is ”Every penny makes a difference.”

Once again, UNICEF thanks everyone who donated.
