CLARKSDALE, MISS. — Mrs. Linda Carlson, a Colonial fourth grader teacher, and Ms Kate Alix from Prospect Hill, Ms Suzanne Diano from Siwanoy, and Mr. Eric Katz from Prospect and Siwanoy all went to build a house earlier this year in this town, which is in one of the poorest states in the U.S.
Mrs. Carlson was there for four days. She also had extra experiences, including cotton picking.

"It was very fun," said Mrs. Carlson "I worked on one house for someone named Shirley. I didn't finish, but I put insulation in the house, I did telephone wiring, painted the front and back and helped put a shed in."
“I felt very good about myself, and I didn’t get bored,” she continued. “It was a little tiring, but not too much.”

She also went cotton picking for the first time. After all, that’s one thing Mississippi is known for.
Now Shirley Shields’ house is finished. Mrs. Carlson will be waiting for the new location next year.
