Pack 1 Cub Scouts hike, throw snowballs, hear stories during cabin campout

PUTNAM VALLEY — The Cub Scouts went on a hike during their winter cabin campout held Jan. 20-22 at Agatha A. Durland Scout Reservation. The temperature went as low as 17 degrees on the first night Pelham Pack 1 slept in the cabins.

“I liked the fact that it was a new adventure,” said Jack Barrett, a fifth grade Webelo.

Many thought the hike was the best event during the campout. “I enjoyed hiking in the snow because it’s quiet,” said Mr. David O’Brien, one of the den leaders in the pack. “It was a challenging hike because the trail was covered with snow and icy.”

The hike didn’t have all boring, easy paths; it had some cool parts too. “I liked butt sliding down the hill,” said Ryan Chang, a first year Webelo.

The hike wasn’t the only activity. The scouts also had fun with a snowball fight and campfire stories. One of the stories was about the ghost chain, and the cabin that it was in was right next to us.
