Coastal Flooding Possible this Afternoon: Hermine Update
The National Weather Service has pinpointed two times of greatest concern for southern Westchester.
As Post Tropical Cyclone Hermine meanders off the East Coast, the National Weather Service issued three notices for southern Westchester on Labor Day:
- Hurricane Local Statement
- Coastal Flood Statement in effect from September 5, 02:00 PM EDT until September 5, 05:00 PM EDT
- Special Weather Statement
Low-lying coastal areas in southern Westchester could be affected by tides that are 1-2 feet above normal this afternoon and again overnight at high tide around 3 a.m., the NWS said.
The NWS pulled the Sound Shore out of its earlier Tropical Storm Warning as the storm got weaker and slower. Now it says:

WINDS WILL GUST AS HIGH AS 40 MPH TODAY AS POST TROPICAL CYCLONE
HERMINE MEANDERS WELL SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF EASTERN LONG ISLAND.
RESIDENTS SHOULD CONTINUE TO PROTECT OBJECTS THAT ARE PRONE TO
WINDY CONDITIONS SUCH AS CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL, PATIO
FURNITURE/UMBRELLAS AND GARBAGE CANS.

HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES SHOULD EXERCISE EXTRA CAUTION ON ELEVATED
ROADWAYS AND BRIDGES WHERE WINDS COULD GUST AT TIMES TO 45 MPH.
The Tropical Storm Warning still exists for Eastern Long Island and Southeastern Connecticut.
