The Top Spot:

The spring season is relatively young as several schools are still enjoying spring break. The Pelham tennis team will be a force to be reckoned with this year especially when it comes to the team’s top three singles players.

Patch Sports caught up with Head Coach Olympia Koclanes before the season began to discuss this year’s senior dominated squad.

 

Patch Sports: Who are some of your returning players coming back who you see being big contributors?

Coach Olympia Koclanes: Daniel Morgan, Dough Kaplan, and Brian Powers, all three are seniors and have very successful records. Having played these positions for the past three years all three are already committed to schools for the fall. Singles carries this team.

Returning senior Will Harris will play first doubles with junior Steven Kaplan, they should be very competitive. Also returning are juniors Alvin Modin, Owen Robinson and seniors Rahil Dedhia and Kevin Yang.

 

Patch Sports: Who are some of your new players you are expecting to thrust into a larger role on the team?

Coach Koclanes: Senior Jake Assael and juniors Sam Berak, Tyler Li, and Millan Mauer

 

Patch Sports: What were some of the weaknesses your team had last year that you hope to improve upon this season?

Coach Koclanes: Doubles will be our challenge.

 

Patch Sports: Are there one or two games circled on the schedule this season?

Coach Koclanes: Scarsdale and Mamaroneck are always very strong oppenents.

Sport: Boys Lacrosse

Game: Pelham vs. Scarsdale

Score: Pelham Won 9-6

Highlights: Gram Lambdin scored four goals and assisted on two others as the Pelicans blew by Scarsdale. David Wu had 16 assists in the win. Spencer Repp scored twice in the loss.

 

Today’s Schedule:

In baseball, Hastings will visit Pelham at 11 a.m.

 

College Sports Notebook:

Andrew Camardella of Pelham had an RBI single and an RBI double as the Dominican College baseball team salvaged a split with the visiting Rams of Philadelphia University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action at Provident Bank Park in Pomona. The Rams won the opener, 8-0, but the Chargers rolled to a 15-0 victory in the second game to lift its record to 12-19 all told and 6-6 in the CACC. Dominican opens a three-game series at Caldwell (NJ) College today at 3 p.m., and then plays a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
