Deadline for Entering Pelham School Board Race Extended

One candidate withdrew her petition, which pushes the whole process out closer to the vote.

PELHAM, NY — Because one of a field of six candidates for two seats on the Pelham Board of Education has dropped out of the race, the deadline for filing a petition to get on the ballot has been extended.

Lonnie Phillips is seeking a second term on the school board. The second seat is being vacated by current board President Marianne Gilland.

Petitions have been filed by Phillips and Sue Bratone Childs, Jessica DeDomenico, Stephen K. Doka and Ben Metz.

Gina Fedele had filed a petition, but dropped out of the race. Therefore the deadline for submitting nominating petitions has been extended until 5 p.m. May 4 as required by state law.

Please note that due to the nominating petition deadline extension, absentee ballots will not be available until May 5.

The election is scheduled for May 16 and voting will take place from 7 am – 9 pm in the Pelham Memorial High School Gym.

Information regarding petitions can be found on www.pelhamschools.org by clicking “Board of Education Election” under the “Board of Education” tab or by contacting the District Clerk, Stevie Pollock at 914-738- 3434 ext. 6.

Nominating petitions must be signed by at least 25 qualified voters of the District or 2 percent of the number of persons who cast votes at the previous annual meeting (whichever is greater).

Trustees serve three year terms and are unpaid.
