On Saturday, October 1 from Noon-4pm the Meadow of The Wartburg will again ring with the sound of children playing when The Future Society Inc. brings the 2nd Intergenerational Festival to this adult care community, which also served as an orphanage from 1866 to 1980. The community is invited to bring their families to play games, enjoy raffles, hands-on science experiments, face painting and much more. Special guests will be on hand to join in the fun.
Larry Fair, founder and CEO of The Future Society, Inc. lived at The Wartburg in Mount Vernon after he was orphaned with his brothers and sister at a young age. He has made it his mission to give back to the Mount Vernon community and The Wartburg. In homage to his upbringing at The Wartburg and his lifelong commitment to youth development, Fair created The Future Society, Inc., a popular Mount Vernon based non-profit organization that mentors disadvantaged inner city youth through activities and life skills development.
“My dream has been to pass the positive experience on to other children in need,” says Larry. “My mission is to encourage our youth and their parents to think outside the box, try new activities, experience new places and most of all, learn how to make decisions as a team, so in the future, they can become great leaders.”

David Gentner, President & CEO of The Wartburg said, “I am pleased to be able to make this intergenerational event a new Wartburg tradition. Last year’s event brought out the community’s families, local leaders, many seniors who live here as well as alumni of The Wartburg Orphan Farm School, which is a integral part of our history.”
