Singer/Songwriter Maya Caballero to Perform to Perform at Bartow-Pell First Friday on June 1

Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum will present singer, songwriter, and musician Maya Caballero for its First Friday! on June 1, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Caballero has a whimsical 1920’s ragtime/Dixieland sound that encompasses the bossa nova, folk, and blues influences of her travels in France and the American Southwest. A self-taught musician born and raised in New York City, Caballero plays guitar and will be accompanied by a full band.

She is currently preparing for the release of her first album, featuring two songs — All Roads Lead to Here and Beni — that appear on the soundtrack of the indie film White Boy Brown. Additionally, Maya Caballero can be heard on the albums of Toby Goodshank (The Moldy Peaches), Pimps of Joytime, Soft Black, Alex Chappo, and Brian Hullfish (Missing Parts). She is active in humanitarian work and performs at many fundraisers.

“We warmly welcome Maya Caballero to Bartow-Pell for her first performance,” says BPMM executive director Ellen Bruzelius. “Visitors to our historic house and gardens will step back in time with Maya’s unique sound — perfect for an early June evening. Keeping in the spirit of the past, First Friday! guests can also visit our exhibit of antique garden tools, Dibbles to Daisy Grubbers, on display through July 1. There’s truly something for everyone at Bartow-Pell.”

The Museum will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Visitors may view the exhibit, tour the
mansion, and stroll the garden. Tickets are $8; $5 for seniors and children from 6-17; and free for members. Light refreshments will be provided at no charge. Free transportation is provided by the Bronx Seaside Trolley, which makes a continuous loop from the Bx29 bus stop at Pelham Bay Park (last stop on the #6 train) to the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum and to City Island. The trolley runs from 5:25 to 10:30 p.m. The last pick up at Bartow-Pell is at 8:40 p.m.

Reservations are requested; call 718-885-1461 or email info@bpmm.org. For the Bronx Seaside Trolley schedule, visit www.bpmm.org.
