GREENBURG - Colonial School’s first grade went on their first field trip to the Greenburg Nature Center in October. At the nature center, they made homemade apple cider by putting apples into a press where they are turned into cider. After making the cider, each student received a sample of the apple-filled goodness.

The Colonial Times interviewed some first graders and got their opinion on the trip.

Bryn Felgner, a first grader in Mrs. Kathryn Castellano’s class, said, “I enjoyed when we finished making the cider. It was cold and delicious... the bus was not fun, and crunching the Granny Smiths was also a challenge.”

Lucy Cole, another student of Mrs. Castellano, said her favorite part was when “we got to juice the apples.” Challenges on the trip included the “freezing cold and (it) was hard to smash the Granny Smiths,” she said.
