'The Martian' Kicks off Science Series at Pelham Picture House

There will be a discussion after the screening.

PELHAM, NY - A new series of films will debut at the Picture House in Pelham April 17.

“Science on Screen” will kick off with a showing of “The Martian,” followed by a discussion and Q&A with Commander Joel of the Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center.

The series is an initiative of the Coolidge Corner Theater, in partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, which provided a grant.

The Picture House is one of 47 independent theaters participating in the program.

“The Martian” stars Matt Damon, who won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of Mark Watney, an astronaut left on Mars by his crew during an intense storm.

The film was directed by Ridley Scott and was nominated for seven Academy Awards.

After the screening, a discussion will take place about how astronauts would have to prepare for a mission to Mars.

Audience members will be able to taste samples of freeze-dried ice cream and grapes.

Tickets to the screening and discussion are $15 for general admission, $12 for members and $10 for seniors. They are available at www.thepicturehouse.org or at the box office, 174 Wolfs Lane in Pelham.
