Natural History Museum Scientist To Speak At Pelham
Dr. Wynn-Grant's address marks the second event in "Aspire to Inspire" speaker series.

American Museum of Natural History Ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant will share her personal story of how
she rose to become a leading scientist during a presentation at the PMHS Auditorium at 7pm on
Monday, Feb. 5. Dr. Wynn-Grant’s address marks the second event in “Aspire to Inspire” speaker series
sponsored by the District’s Diversity Oversight Committee and the Pelham Education Foundation.
Known for her study of bears, lions and ecosystems, Dr. Wynn-Grant will tie in her career in the STEAM
field with the story of how she broke barriers and met challenges along the way, including coming from
a low-performing high school to become a leading expert in her field and champion of diversity and
inclusion.

Dr. Grant is an active member of the Society for Conservation Biology, in which she serves as the Deputy
Chair of the Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Committee.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Dr. Wynn-Grant to the Pelham Public Schools,” said PMHS Principal
and Co-Chair of the Diversity Oversight Committee Jeannine Clark. ”Dr. Wynn-Grant’s research is
fascinating and her accomplishments are remarkable. We encourage the entire community to attend
this exciting event."

Dr. Wynn-Grant holds a Ph. D in ecology and evolutionary biology. She has expertise using statistical
modeling to investigate how humans can influence the spatial patterns of carnivore behavior and
ecology. Currently, she is studying a small population of American black bear in the western U.S. and has
previously conducted similar research with African lions in Kenya and Tanzania as well as grizzly bears in
the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
